Sheri Smith considers herself fortunate to have discovered two lifelong passions: catering and creative writing. Since 1990, she has thrived in the world of event planning and catering while also nurturing her love for storytelling through poetry, screenplays, and more in her spare time.
Her journey into the spotlight began at the age of seven when Sheri appeared on Broadway and starred in one of the longest-running national commercials for M&M’s (“melts in your mouth, not in your hand”). In that commercial, she was the tall one, which she can be seen on her YouTube channel. Additionally, she got parts in soap operas, print modeling, and even contributed vocals to the Singing Nun's album before her family encouraged her to focus on education.
In the 1970s, Sheri’s adventurous spirit led her to enlist in the Navy, with dreams of becoming an EMT. However, societal limitations at the time meant few opportunities for women in that field, and she eventually pivoted back to the entertainment industry, working in production and auditioning for acting roles.
Throughout the 1980s, Sheri found herself immersed in Hollywood, working alongside some of the industry’s most prestigious producers. Her passion for food and service led her to craft services and catering, where she discovered her true calling as an event specialist.
By the 1990s, Sheri had acquired her own catering company, scaling it to a $3.5 million gross in just nine years. Her company was the backstage caterer at the Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre and was sought after by schools, corporate clients, and social events across Southern California.
In the wake of 9/11, Sheri relocated to the Big Island of Hawaii, where she built a castle-themed vacation rental. CastleInHawaii garnered media attention, including a feature on KHON2 News. While running the vacation rental, she continued to fly between Hawaii and Southern California to coordinate large events.
Today, Sheri focuses on ChocolateFountainSoCal.com, and GourmetCatering.com catering events that range from intimate weddings to large corporate functions. She stays active with daily swimming, gym workouts, and pupsitting. When not working on events, Sheri continues to write and explore new creative endeavors.
